![]() ![]() ![]() Seems like the player character is the guy in the sneaking suit on the right. I mean up to this point I assumed I'd be playing as the guy with the chunky metal headwear from the box cover, but that's apparently a Cyborg Elite Guard. It's a big gap in my important video game knowledge. Well okay maybe I put it on for five minutes once and got scared off by the controls, and I did play the demo of the remake, but this is something I'm mostly clueless about. I hear the remake of this game is extremely faithful to the original even to its own detriment if that interests you instead but I wasn't a fan of the art style of the remake so decided to go with the original, the cheaper price also helped. This week on Super Adventures, I'm checking out the original System Shock, a game I've somehow never played. ![]() I didn't use a guide and only used a mod to match the audio and subtitles of the audio logs as reading and hearing two different things at once was annoying for me. If you somehow read that and decided you're still interested in the game then you're probably like me and enjoy the old and janky games more than a lot of modern games in which case I would heavily recommend it. A tiny switch pixel in a massive floor layout that you can't progress through unless you find that switch. The room is also heavily irradiated so you wouldn't want to stay there long and search every pixel. A small pixel of a switch that perfectly blends into the wall texture. The switch to deactivate the forcefield is in the exact same room with the item. Now, I would not say I am very smart but I maybe naturally assumed the way to get past this force field was a secret passage or switch in another room, but no. System Shock's floor layout act as a labyrinth with secret passages and rooms in every corner with a fairly big level of each floor. One example from the top of my head is one certain puzzle where an item is locked behind a force field. ![]() It features extensive backtracking and extremely unintuitive design and puzzles. It is absolutely not built for the modern expectations of games. However, I would not recommend this game to anyone I know. A fantastic game that lives up to a lot of praise I've heard about the System Shock series. ![]()
